OVERVIEW
TRAINING displays courses taken by University Personnel. A record will be present for a person if they have taken a training course. If the person held an appointment at the time of the training, the appointment, title & rate information will be displayed as well. If the person had more than one active appointment at the time of training, multiple records will show for the person. The appointment, title and rate information may not be current information for the person. Student Help appointments (title code = 94780) have been eliminated.

This information will be refreshed on the first weekend of every month.

DATA FORMATS
The codes following the field names in this document define the field. The different types are:

A – Alphanumeric field. This indicates the field may contain letters and/or numbers. The number following is the field length.
Example: a field defined as A5 could contain ‘E10LN’.

PS – Packed-Signed field. This indicates the field may contain only numbers. The number following is the field length. If two digits with a decimal point in between are present the first indicates the number of positions before the decimal point and the second the number of digits after the decimal point.
Example: a field that is defined as PS4.2 would be in the format 9999.99 whereas PS6 would be in the format 999999.

Column Name Format Description
PERSON_ID A8 A unique number assigned to a person. It is always the same for the same person.
PERSON_NAME A30 The name currently used by a person. The format will be last name, followed by a comma and a space, then first name or initial, middle initial or name, followed by a space plus Jr. or Sr. or III if appropriate. The only special character required is a comma to end the last name.
APPT_MAJOR_UNIT A1 This is the first character of the appt_major_dept field. It represents the unit of the department responsible for the appt.
APPT_MAJOR_DEPT A11 This department is the one that coordinates the appointment. Used for unclassified and classified appointments to identify this department as the one that will assume responsibility for coordinating the personnel decisions. Including merit salary increases, probationary periods, tenure or indefinite status, layoff or non-renewal. This is the “home” department for academic staff voting rights and administrative contacts.
TRAINING_CODE A2 A code used to identify the course the course taken.
Valid values:
01 = Session on discrimination and harassment for TA’s and PA’s
ENTRY_DATE A8 The date the training record was created.
Format: YYYYMMDD.
TITLE_CODE A5 Used to identify the official University system title, or Wisconsin Civil Service title for the appointment.
TITLE_NAME A21 The current description of the title code.
APPT_BASE_RATE PS8.3 For each appointment, the salary base rate is the amount the University agrees to pay the employee for the work done in the appointment, expressed in a standardized form. It should be carefully noted that the amount in this field is not necessarily the amount actually paid to the employee by the University. If the period worked is less than a year, if the employee works less (or more) than full-time for part or all of the period, or for a variety of other reasons, the actual renumeration may be higher or lower than the salary base rate. The format depends on salary basis. If the salary basis is “H”, then the rate is displayed with three decimal positions. For any other salary basis, the rate is displayed as a whole dollar amount, without a decimal point.
SALARY_BASIS A1 Contains the pay basis for this appointment.
Valid cods are:
A – annual year
B – ten month
C – academic year
H – hourly
L – lumpNote: The display of the salary base rate will differ depending on the salary basis.
APPOINTMENT_ID A8 A unique number assigned to each and every appointment.
APPT_EFF_DATE A8 The start date of the appointment.
Format: YYYYMMDD
APPT_END_DATE A8 The date that the appointment ends. This is the last date the appointment is in active pay status.
Format: YYYYMMDD
LOADDATE A8 The date the information was extracted and put in the view.
Format: YYYYMMDD
