This view contains information about the veteran and disabled status of a person. It has one record for each person that has a currently active appointment on the UW Madison campus.

DATA FORMATS
The codes following the field names in this document define the field. The different types are:

A – Alphanumeric field. This indicates the field may contain letters and/or numbers. The number following is the field length.
Example: a field defined as A5 could contain ‘E10LN’.

PS – Packed-Signed field. This indicates the field may contain only numbers. The number following is the field length. If two digits with a decimal point in between are present the first indicates the number of positions before the decimal point and the second the number of digits after the decimal point.
Example: a field that is defined as PS4.2 would be in the format 9999.99 whereas PS6 would be in the format 999999.

Column Name Format Description
*PERSON_ID A8 A unique number assigned to each person. The number is always the same for the same person.
PERSON_NAME A30 The name currently used by a person.
BIRTHDATE A8 The day, month and year of the person’s birth. Format: YYYYMMDD.
GENDER A1 The person’s gender.

M = male
F = female
Blank = unreported

HERITAGE_CODE A1 This is the Racial/Ethnic heritage of an employee.

Valid values are:
1 = Black
2 = Asian
3 = Native American
4 = Hispanic
5 = Other
Blank = unknown

VIETNAM_VETERAN A1 This is the Federal definition. “Veteran of the Vietnam-era” means a veteran, any part of whose active military, naval, or air service was during the period August 5, 1964, through May 7, 1975, and who (I) was on duty for more than 180 days and was discharged or released there from with other than a dishonorable discharge, or (II) was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability. No veteran may be considered to be a veteran of thE vietnam era under this paragraph after December 31, 1991.

Valid values are:
Y = is a Vietnam veteran according to the
above paragraph
N = is not a Vietnam veteran
Blank = Vietnam veteran status unknown

DISABLED_VETERAN A1 This is the Federal definition. “Special disabled veteran” means (A) a veteran who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Veterans Administration for a disability (I) rated at 30 percent or more, or (II) rated at 10 or 20 percent in the case of a veteran who has been determined under section 1506 of title 38,

U.S.C., to have a serious employment handicap; or (B) a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Valid values are:
Y = is a disabled veteran
N = is not a disabled veteran
Blank = disabled veteran status unknown

VETERAN A1 This is the State definition. This indicates whether the person has identified him or herself as a veteran.

Valid values are:

Y = is a veteran
N = not a veteran
Blank = veteran status unknown

DISABLED_WAR_VET A1 This is the State definition. This indicates whether the person is a disabled wartime veteran whose disability is directly traceable to war service.

Valid values are:

Y = is a disabled war veteran
N = is not a disabled war veteran
Blank = disabled war veteran status
unknown

PCT_WAR_DISABLED PS1.2 This is the State definition. It is a number indicating the percent of this person’s wartime disability.
SPOUSE_70_PCT_DIS A1 This is the State definition. It indicates whether the person is the spouse of a disabled wartime veteran whose disability is at least 70% and is directly traceable to war service.

Valid values are:

Y = is a spouse
N = is not a spouse
Blank = spouse status is unknown

WIDOWED_SPOUSE_VET A1 This is the State definition. It indicates whether the person is an unremarried spouse of a veteran killed in action or a veteran who died of a service-connected disability.

Valid values are:

Y = is a spouse
N = is not a spouse
Blank = spouse status is unknown

DISABLED A1 Self-declared disabled person. Four values are allowed in this field.

N = This person is not disabled.

D = This is a person with a disability. The American with Disabilities Act of 1990 defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Examples of major life activities are: hearing, seeing, speaking, breathing, performing manual tasks, walking, caring for oneself, learning or working.

S = This is a person with a severe disability. Severely disabled employee means an employee with a chronic disability if the chronic disability meets all of the following conditions:

a)It is attributable to a mental or physical impairment or combination of mental and physical impairments;

b)It is likely to continue indefinitely;

c)It results in substantial functional limitations in one or more of the following areas of major life activity: self-care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, capacity for independent living, and economic self-sufficiency.

Blank = This person has not responded to the disability survey.

DISCHARGE_DATE A8 Optional. Date the person was discharged or released from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service. This data is provided by the person and entered into IADS via transaction PRVY.
ARMED_FORCES_MEDAL_VET A1 Optional. Valid values are ‘Y’ or blank. A veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service, participated in a U.S. military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985 (61 Fed. Reg. 1209). This data is provided by the person and entered into IADS via transaction PRVY.
OTHER_PROTECTED_VET A1 Optional. Valid values are ‘Y’ or blank. A veterean who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized. This data is provided by the person and entered into IADS via transaction PRVY.
WARTIME_VET A1 Optional. Valid values are ‘Y’ or blank. A veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service during at least one of the following: World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan War, Iraq War. This data is provided by the person and entered into IADS via transaction PRVY.
NON_WARTIME_VET A1 Optional. Valid values are ‘Y’ or blank. A veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service during a conflict which is not considered a war (Wars are World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan War, Iraq War.) This data is provided by the person and entered into IADS via transaction PRVY.
LOADDATE A8 The date that this record was loaded to this table.
