STDNT ETHNIC REPORTING

DATA VIEW NAME: STDNT_ETHNIC_REPORTING
OVERVIEW: This data view shows information about student race/ethnicity as identified on the most recent application for admission (regardless of career). This view contains one row per student and includes how this student should be reported using the federal Department of Education methodology as well as an indicator/flag for each race/ethnic group the student identified. The federal methodology counts each student in a single category and does not result in duplicated counts. However, this field is not appropriate when data is being used to identify all of the students who identify any specific race/ethnic group. The indicators are best used for this purpose with notation that they result in duplicate counts.
LOAD FREQUENCY: Data is refreshed nightly.

DATA FORMATS: Primary Key Columns are identified with an asterisk(*)
Alphanumeric Data: VARCHAR2( N) (N) = maximum length. Field contains letters and/or numbers. Trailing blanks are eliminated.
Example: VARCHAR2 (5) could contain ‘ABC12’ or ‘ABC’ or ‘A’
Numeric Data: NUMBER (N) (N) = length. Field contains only numbers.
NUMBER (X,Y) = format for numbers with decimal positions.
X = total number of digits
Y = the number of digits after the decimal
Examples: NUMBER (6) represents 250012 NUMBER (6,2) represents 2500.12
Date: DATE – Date can be in various formats. Date functions available with your query tool can be used to format the date.
Examples: DATE (YYYYMMDD), DATE (YYDDD), DATE (DD-MM-YY)

SIS personal Identifier. This is a unique identifier for a student and will never be changed throughout the individual’s relationship with the University. This is not the same as Campus_ID. Only 10 characters are in use.

ETHNIC_REPORTING_CODE

VARCHAR2 (1)

A code representing an aggregated value for reporting based on federal Department of Education reporting standards.
Valid values are:
10 = International
20 = Hispanic
30 = 2 or More Races
40 = African American
50 = American Indian
60 = Asian
70 = Native Hawaiian
80 = White
90 = Unknown

ETHNIC_REPORTING_DESCR

VARCHAR2(30)

The names of the code represented as aggregated value for the reporting purposes based on the federal Department of Education reporting standards.

International: International students, regardless of race. International students have citizenship status values of 4 or 5.

Hispanic: Non-international students who reported Hispanic ethnicity, regardless of other races reported.

2 or more races: Non-international, non-Hispanic students who reported at least 2 different racial group identities. Add the word “group” similarly for the other categories.

White: Non-international, non-Hispanic students who reported White as their sole racial identity.

Black: Non-international, non-Hispanic students who reported Black/African American as their sole racial identity.

Asian: Non-international, non-Hispanic students who reported Asian as their sole racial identity.

American Indian: Non-international, non-Hispanic students who reported American Indian as their sole racial identity.

Hawaiian: Non-international, non-Hispanic students who reported Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander as their sole racial identity.

Unknown: Non-international students who did not report any racial or ethnic identity.

CITIZENSHIP_STATUS

The Student’s citizenship status.

1 = Native

2 = Naturalized

3 = Alien Permanent

4 = Alien Temporary

5 = Alien

6 = Refugee

7 = Domestic, status pending

8 = Other

MINORITY

VARCHAR2 (1)

Domestic students will be flagged as a minority if they identify as any of the following race/ethnic groups: African American, Hispanic/Latino(a), American Indian, Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander, Asian.

Valid Value:

Y = Minority

TARGETED_MINORITY

VARCHAR2 (1)

Domestic students will be flagged as a targeted minority if they identify as any of the following race/ethnic groups: African American, Hispanic/Latino(a), American Indian, or any of the Southeast Asian subgroups (Hmong, Cambodian, Laotian, Vietnamese). This term is mainly used within the UW System and is defined through state statute.

Valid value:

Y = Targeted Minority

HISPANIC

This field is used to define students (or applicants) who have identified as Hispanic.

AFRICAN_AMERICAN

This field is used to define students (or applicants) who have identified as African American.

This field is used to define students (or applicants) who have identified as American Indian.

This field is used to define students (or applicants) who have identified as Asian.
