DAPIR recently updated two institutional Tableau visualizations to reflect fall 2025 census numbers. The Trends in Student Enrollments and Trends in Degrees and Related Data visualizations provide insights into enrollments and degrees over time, broken down by student characteristics and majors, among other topics of interest.
To access the visualizations using these links, you need a NetID and to be on campus or connected via VPN.
Trends in Student Enrollments provides a summary and detailed information about student enrollments over time, including majors, named options (concentrations within majors), and certificates.
Trends in Degrees and Related Data gives information on degree recipient demographics and the numbers of degrees, majors, and certificates awarded. It also shows the number of named options completed.
Who might use the visualizations and why?
Faculty and staff involved in program planning, program review, and self-study reports can use them to complete different areas, including the student profile and trends section.
Communications staff can gather institutional figures for presentations, articles, and social media posts.
Department chairs find Trends in Degrees and Related Data useful for assessment.
Trends in Student Enrollment, as the source of official enrollment numbers, is used in required reporting, such as the statutorily required accountability report and annual reports to UW-Madison’s accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission.
Where does the data come from?
These visualizations, created by DAPIR, use two primary data sources.
- The Office of the Registrar manages census date enrollment data, which reflects enrollment numbers as of the 10th day of each term. Read more about the UW–Madison’s annual census date.
- UW–Madison’s governed academic structure connects the university’s degree major programs to the departments and schools/colleges that administer them.
