The Badger Data Warehouse service provides well-organized and secure data storage for institutional data. This service includes the historical InfoAccess data warehouse and Snowflake. The warehouse service supports all governed institutional data, ranging from enterprise tools to systems supporting schools, colleges, and divisions.
All data stored in the warehouse service can be accessed in Badger Data Connect.
Service tools: InfoAccess Warehouse and Badger Data Warehouse (Snowflake).
Who does this service support: IT staff who support the storage and management of enterprise systems managed through Badger Data Processing, as well as institutional data loaded directly by schools, colleges, and divisions.
InfoAccess Warehouse
InfoAccess is the longstanding data warehouse for UW-Madison’s student and curricular information and associated enterprise data. It has been in place for decades and is now a legacy warehouse. Users are encouraged to use the Badger Data Connect service to access data, rather than connecting directly to the InfoAccess warehouse. Data from source systems like Student Information System (SIS), Budget System, Shared Financial System (SFS), Person Hub and Human Resource System (HRS) are housed in the InfoAccess Warehouse.
Badger Data Warehouse (Snowflake)
The Badger Data Warehouse is UW-Madison’s cloud analytics environment using the Snowflake platform. Users are encouraged to use the Badger Data Connect service to access data.
Requesting warehousing help
The primary path to loading data into the Badger Data Warehouse is through Badger Data Processing, the platform service offering for managed data modeling, processing, and monitoring.
If your school, college, or division already has the robust ability to process its own data, direct data management into Badger Data Warehouse may be possible in limited circumstances.
If you need help loading institutional data into the warehouse, contact us at badgerdata@wisc.edu.
Accessing warehoused data
Historically, each warehouse had to be connected to each system through direct database connections. With the implementation of Denodo, this has been consolidated into a single access point for most end-users.
- To learn more about Denodo, visit Badger Data Connect.
- To learn how you can get access to institutional data domains, read about Badger Data Access.
