Badger Data Processing clarifies and expands long-standing services. It provides data modeling, transformation, and orchestration services for institutional data systems, enabling the integration of data into the Badger Data Warehouse.
Service tools: Informatica (IICS), Tivoli (IWS), Snowpipe (Snowflake)
Who does this service support: Users who rely on enterprise data to support the Badger Data Warehouse, which is managed both centrally and by individual divisions.
Background
Historically, data processing was tied directly to the warehouse itself. The term “InfoAccess” encompassed the data in the database, the database itself, and the processing of that data into the system. These are significantly tied to the Student Information System (SIS) and other key systems.
As DAPIR expands its services, it is essential to distinguish between them, as some customers may require one but not the other.
Badger Data Processing continues to support the systems it has, such as SIS. It also offers data management solutions to schools, colleges, and divisions that maintain systems and data sources containing institutional data but lack the resources or time to bring that data into the Badger Data Platform.
Request processing help
All data processed into the Platform must follow data governance policies, including domain representation and risk classification.
- If the system or data source is already classified by data governance, you can contact your data steward to discuss the best approach for warehousing your system. We regularly engage with data stewards, who help navigate questions about appropriateness.
- If the system or data source has not been classified by data governance, please contact us at badgerdata@wisc.edu to discuss how to initiate the governance process.
If your school, college, or division has the robust ability to process its data and the data is already classified under governance, direct data management into Badger Data Warehouse may be possible in limited circumstances. In this case, customers may only need the Badger Data Warehouse service and not processing support.
