UW System Administrative Policy 1031, Information Security: Data Classification and Protection, is meant to establish a method of categorizing data assets based on risk, establish standards for data handling, and ensure consistent and appropriate data management. The policy, along with UW System Administrative Procedures 1031A and 1031B, require the assignment of a data steward for each data domain controlled by the institution, and assigns responsibilities to the data steward role, including identification and classification of major systems within the data steward’s domain and designation of who may access high risk data. The full text of the policy and procedures is available here.
In compliance with UW System policy and procedures, UW-Madison’s institutional data domains and assigned data stewards are in the table below. Additional domains and stewards are expected to be added over time.
