Office of Data Management and Analytics Services hires Lisa Johnston as Director of Data Governance

The Office of Data Management and Analytics Services is excited to announce the hiring of Lisa Johnston as our new director of data governance.

Lisa joins us from the University of Minnesota, where she has worked in the institutional data landscape since 2007. She is a tenured academic librarian with many years of experience on the research side of data governance, including leading national data curation groups and publishing numerous articles and several books on the topic. Some of her most recent work includes leading a data management and curation program for the University of Minnesota, co-directing their digital institutional data repository, representing her unit on several system-wide committees related to data governance, and working in a leadership role in their institutional cyberinfrastructure. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics and a Master of Library Science (MLS), both from Indiana University.

Assuming leadership of our vibrant and growing data governance program, she will use the DAMA framework and leverage campus stakeholders and the Data Governance Council to lead the formulation, documentation and enforcement of data governance standards and procedures. She will also improve and expand the use of data management tools; plan, develop, and implement data governance training programs; and represent the campus on system-wide data management initiatives.
