Convert queries by July 1, 2020 to use new academic structure data views

Academic Planning and Institutional Research (APIR) and the Office of the Registrar have been working to create a ‘single source of truth’ for the university’s academic structure. The academic structure is being used in the Guide, Lumen Courses and Lumen Programs, SIS, AEFIS, Handshake, budget allocation models, department planning profiles, and other systems that use academic data.

As part of that project, a new set of academic structure data views were announced in July 2019:

ACADEMIC_PLAN,

ACADEMIC_SUBPLAN, and

ACADEMIC_SUBJECT.

The new academic structure data views replace the plan and subplan attributes tables and the subject code tableThe views below will no longer be available after July 1, 2020, so please convert your queries by then:

STDNT_ACAD_PLAN_ATTRIBUTES,

STDNT_ACAD_SUBPLAN_ATTRIBUTES

STDNT_SUBJECT_CODES

FROZEN_ACAD_PLAN_ATTRIBUTES

FROZEN_ACAD_SUBPLAN_ATTRIBUTES

FROZEN_SUBJECT_CODES

Users who had access to the above data views have automatically received access to the new ACADEMIC_PLAN, ACADEMIC_SUBPLAN, and ACADEMIC_SUBJECT data views. Any InfoAccess user may request access to the academic structure data views.

There are nuances in leveraging these views for historical trend analysis. If you are planning to convert queries that reference data prior summer 2017 (Term 1176), please contact Michelle Young, meyoung@wisc.edu

In order to make it as useful and accessible as possible, APIR has released the UW-Madison’s Academic Structure Tableau workbook for visualizing the new structure.
