Workday
Lonnie Morgan, UW-Madison ATP Data & Reporting Strategy Lead, provided valuable information about Workday data sources and reporting, including an ancillary system update.
Workday primary data sources
There will be four primary data sources available once Workday goes live. They are:
- Workday reports. Converted Peoplesoft and new (fiscal year 2026+) human resource, finance, and research administration data. Access will be role-based, with role assignments currently in development.
- EAP (Enterprise Analytics Platform) Tableau workbooks. Built from Tableau datasets. Role-based access driven by Workday. As roles are established in Workday, they are being mapped to these Tableau workbooks so access aligns.
- EAP Tableau datasets. Created from Redshift views. Role-based access driven by Workday role assignments.
- EAP Redshift views. SQL access is granted by data stewards and based on business needs.
Ancillary systems update
These primary data sources meet the needs of many UW–Madison faculty and staff. UW-Madison is also exploring opportunities to provide our users with an enhanced data access option, which will be discussed in more detail at future Badger Data Network sessions.
The UW-Madison Ancillary Data & Reporting Team is working with teams to push data via integrations from APIs and EAP to their local reporting environments (i.e., charter data warehouse). These teams are working to rebuild and rework their local databases and tools to align with Workday concepts.
Data analysts should not use their personal EAP accounts to build automated data copy jobs for integration loads into local databases. Instead, they should create service accounts and automated flows. For assistance, contact Lonnie Morgan and Steve Devoti.

DAPIR updates
At October’s Badger Data Network, we shared three initiatives. We successfully submitted our items for Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment. The task force has begun meeting to review and plan for the new standards for federal data on race/ethnicity. Soon, Allison La Tarte, Vice Provost for DAPIR, will share the survey assessment and review process with campus leadership groups.
Proposed terms for our Data Definition Glossary are open for review and comment by all UW–Madison institutional data community members. To be included in future email notifications about this process, please contact Lisa Johnston.
Bethany shared staffing updates for DAPIR. We ended with a thank you and recap of 2025’s Data Privacy Week (annually during the last week in January) and Love Data Week (annually during the week of Valentine’s).
